Hi,
First of all nice idea and it is always lovely to see applications that solve real problems :)

That being said, I have some problems with design of the site:

  • it looks poorly designed and not very professional
  • it is too dark
  • it is hard to understand what the site is and how exactly works

I would love to see it more brighter, warmer, more easy to understand and use :)

This is just my opinion :), if you are interested in redesign maybe it would be nice to open issue on redesign, so that contributors can try to make site looks a bit more nicer !

Is this project even accepting any pull requests ? Anyone actively managing it ?

I came to the project in hopes of finding one that I found deep meaning. Unfortunately it appears abandoned.

It does appear to be abandoned. I came here for the same reason. Maybe we could revive it.

I came here for the same reason as well. Has anyone tried to update this project or start something similar?

@Bula @cheyner @marcweil Are you willing to transfer ownership of this org to me ? I have a handful of volunteer willing to help this grow and would be willing to maintain it.

@natachaS Well this project is a blast from the past! I'm certainly okay giving ownership over, but I'd want at least someone else from the original project team to give a 👍 too. @Bula @ahinz @mdb @salasks @themightychris?

@Bula sounds great ! I'll be glad to help revive the project and check out/merge a few PRs.

Resource Awareness Philly was a project that came out of Code for Philly's 2015 sustainability hackathon with similar aims of helping find resources for homeless/those in need: https://codeforphilly.org/projects/resource_access_for_philly

The specific use case of "find the nearest shelter" proved to be a non-starter in Philly as the city policy is for everyone to go to a central intake facility and get assigned to a shelter. If we direct people to go directly to a shelter they'll get turned away and directed to central intake

Code for Philly would be happy to take custody of the org/repo and administer access going forward to ensure continuity. It's great that you have interest @natachaS but we've seen projects get transferred to newly-interested individuals before and they don't always stick with it, so we try to find ways to provide sustainable institutional ownership of project assets across waves of volunteers
