In spite of having a free developer subscription to twitter, my copy of t now says "This App has violated Twitter Rules and policies. As a result, it can no longer be accessed. " Has anyone been able to successfully appeal this?

The message I get says:

You currently have access to a subset of Twitter API v2 endpoints and limited v1.1 endpoints (e.g. media post, oauth) only. If you need access to this endpoint, you may need a different access level. You can learn more here: https://developer.twitter.com/en/portal/product

Does this gem work at all anymore or has it been depricated?

I figured it out. You need to use the new x-ruby which has been updated to be compatible with the new X API and infrastructure.

For those following along at home who forgot how to google (or who currently have access to a subset of Google), it lives here: https://github.com/sferik/x-ruby
