Tab bar not following theme colors

After changing the theme to any light theme the tab bar continues being black as if no theme change happened.

The only themes Extraterm (Qt) has for the terminal text area. The UI elements are always in the dark theme. Or do you mean setting an operating system light/dark theme?

I though that changing the theme will change the UI elements, but nor system theme nor settings/appearance made the change to UI elements.

In the older Electron version of Extraterm, some of the UI elements like the background colours did respond to the current terminal coour scheme. This is not the case in the Qt version. It could be done of course, but that is quite low on the list of priorities.
