This is a suggestion.

In the Coursera lesson Hello Terminal, I see this sentence:

Type clear at the prompt and then hit enter.

Now a naïve noobie student might get thrown off at this. How would he or she realize that you meant something like this?:

Type the word "clear" in the console (without the quotation marks) and then hit the key labelled "Enter".

The .pdf of the e-book The Unix Workbench at least uses a different font for "clear".

Some courses do have some introductory paragraphs that explain the font format conventions used in the course for commands-to-type, keys-to-hit, Unix commands, input field names, and so on.
