How to force start time on an existing Plyr instance on page load?

I can't figure out how to get an already initiated Plyr instance and do changes to it.
I have a "startTime" value stored in localStorage and want to move the cursor to the position when page is loaded and player is ready. I'm not creating the player, it's a plugin on my website.

I tried something like this but to no effect:

document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", () => {

  setTimeout(() => {
    const player = new Plyr('#plyr-playlist');

    player.on('ready', (event) => {
      var startTime = localStorage.getItem('startTime');
      player.seek(startTime);
      player.play();
    });
  }, 3000);

});

Any help or tips are welcome.
