Prerequisites:

  • Is the functionality available in the GitHub UI? If so, please provide a link to information about the feature.

No, this is for users of this app and is not related to GitHub directly.

New Feature

When something goes wrong with applying the settings for any reason, it would be incredibly useful to be able to see what went wrong in an effort to diagnose the issue. I'm currently in a position where my settings are not being applied and I can't tell why they aren't working . I've applied all the fixes and workarounds I've been able to find in other open issues. I basically have no path forward right now beside trial and error. Being able to see what is going wrong would also likely reduce the number of issues reported here, or at least make them easier to triage.

If this does exist somewhere a quick line in the readme or some other doc describing how to view the diagnostics would be immensely helpful.

GitHub has a suboptimal logging experience, especially for background apps. The Audit Log feature could be used i errors were produced to the audit log as audit events. This might mean treating errors differently, but is one option with the limited functionality in GitHub.
