In many places instead of code snippet there's a path to include, e.g.:
{{#include ../listings/ch02-guessing-game-tutorial/listing-02-02/Cargo.toml:9:}}

(I'm learning rust - just like you some time ago - and been looking for ebook, update version of the book)

I confirm this with today's book (Commit: e5ed97128302d5fa45dbac0e64426bc7649a558c (2020-08-31 17:53)).

Maybe it is a problem with the mdbook versions used, as I can rebuild the book myself now:

cargo install mdbook-epub    # this gives 0.3.0
cargo install mdbook --version 0.3.7

Then download the book sources, add [output.epub] to book.toml, and run mdbook build. I get an EPUB that, when opened in Calibre, seems to contain all snippets.
