Docs build time has doubled recently

Building the docs took about 1hr last week. Recently, the build times are now over 2 hours.

I'm not sure how to track this down but I went through the recent commits to main and clicked through the list checking the build times.

From March 28:

• Update pytest requirement from <8.1.0 to <8.2.0 #5829 took 1hr 8mins to build
• Fix deprecated warning using box in add_axes #5832 was merged after that one and took 2hr 9mins to build

However, the changes from #5832 don't seem likely culprits for the increase in build time, so I'm not sure what the cause is.

1hr was already a long time to wait for the docs, but 2hrs is just too much. Cross ref to #5352.

These super long build times make implementing new docs features very slow and tedious, especially if many iterations on the build are required to fine-tune the visual formatting of new features (e.g. #5822).
