Invite-based account registration in ejabberd

It would be nice to have a middle ground between closed registration and entirely open registration.
For example, I might want to run a server where I can invite people, but they can't register without my approval.
Prosody has mod_invites which serves the same purpose.

Is this already possible to implement in ejabberd ? I've searched, but nothing relevant came up.
