Think it would be a good idea to check to see if the project's version is unspecified and if it is to automatically set the version?

freefair's plugin does this: https://github.com/freefair/gradle-plugins/blob/master/git-plugin/src/main/java/io/freefair/gradle/plugins/git/GitVersionPlugin.java

This would let people omit setting the version in the build file altogether.
