... because it seems the upstream project is dead.

Alternatives:

Use the fork https://github.com/siemens/ngx-datatable
Implement our own datatable component (which seems the better solution because it has once again been shown that it is better to do everything yourself to avoid falling flat on your face at some point when the upstream project dies).
