Describe the bug
If you have a look on https://software.opensuse.org/, you will see that only non-free packages have their metadata displayed on both appstore and categories pages.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to the main page
  2. Look at it to see only Steam and Opera displayed in the carousel

Expected behavior
Open source packages should also be displayed there

I guess it must have been an issue with fetching the repo metadata at that time, would be nice to keep the old metadata around if new one can't be fetched

As I understand, needed file is [project]/app/views/package/explore.html.erb. It contain featuredApps id that's what needed to be modificate.

Do you know, what "@apps.blank?"?

I think that would be more on the controller to cache metadata it gets from download.opensuse.org
