Direct Midi without Synthesia

I have tried to connect my USB Midi adapter directly to the Pi so i can use the learn songs feature embed in the pi without having any other connections to a PC or other device.
I can find the USB Midi interface in my port connection. I used it as input and connected it. But it won't work, i cannot receive any MIDI input.

Is this setup generally not possible? Or did i do something wrong?
Ideally i can just learn my songs without any other device. Is that possible somehow?

Funny enough i use a USB to MIDI adapter and i had to plug in the connector with label "out" into the "in" of the piano and vice versa. Now it works as it is expected.
