Weekly Meeting 136 is happening on Wednesday, 5 December, 2023 from 9:00 AM PDT (16:00 UTC) - 10:00 AM PDT (17:00 UTC)

We'll be meeting again in the omi-weekly-meeting channel of the AngellXR/OMI Discord.
We regularly use the # omi-meeting-chat channel for text chat.

Who we are and why we're here:
The Open Metaverse Interoperability Group (OMI) is focused on bridging virtual worlds by designing and promoting protocols for identity, social graphs, inventory, and more. Our members include businesses and individuals working towards this common goal.

We are concerned about practical standards, and helping grassroots members. We have a seat at MSF and are part of the W3C by charter. We intend to serve as a social connection between the different organisations, as a less formal organisation.

If you’re an observer or here for the first time, this is a general community meeting where people who work on the OMI group initiatives discuss updates and contribution opportunities for current projects and goals. This is your chance to jump in and help!

Agenda

1. Backlog tasks list to be revived:

• do we want a matrix server and keep a little space here in discord that tells people where OMI has moved?
• do we also want a discord too?
• Create mailing list
• clean up W3C page
• Move Mastodon server: mrmetaverse has two reserved apparently. openmetaverse:mastodon
• when something happens, write a brief blog and tweet and post for our discord/matrix
• Open Collective switch to 501c3
  indiebio and mrmetaverse will reach out to make the switch!
• Post blog about the new chair election and thanking the previous - draft ready, just needs new Discord and a mailing list.
• create a blog announcing the new OMI discord or matrix.
• Post blog about moving to a new server - early draft here
• Post blog announcing our end of 2024 goals for a metaverse conference in the Metaverse
• we will send out a email newsletter to our combined list from W3C and Discord. We will send an email and a tweet and a matrix post for every new blog. and then a roundup every 3-4 blog posts.

2. For discussion:
   Do we want Discord AND Matrix?
   Can we create a new discord server so long to get started setting it up?
   Which mailing list - MailChimp?
   Attendance Screenshots - should we do this again?

Working groups are formal, #omi-experiments are informal. Working groups are for when you need a github repo or other resources.

OMI is not a company. We do not invest in businesses. We co-create - protocols, and whatever. We do not want to define the metaverse, and have so many people disagree. We want to meet people where they are.

2. Matrix - can open Matrix up to other standards groups as well, to bridge - because our stated vision includes being a social connection, bringing people into a neutral zone.

Don't want to be spread too thin, can only realistically connect to 3 to 5 channels.

Protocols not being implementing could be because:

1. People don't know about us
2. People don't understand what we're saying
3. People don't like us

Before you catastrophise about the third one, work on the first two!
