Is there support for 2015 TVs? The instructions don't seem to be valid for 2015 Samsungs.

On my JS8500, I can login with account "develop", but when I long press an app in "My Apps" I do not get an option for "IP Settings", I only get options for "Reinstall", "Move", and "View Details".

I'm sure there ist somewhere a similar option. I will download a simulator and have a look.
Give me 2 days (:

Meanwhile you could try out this fork, see if you get better results:

Did anyone find the options for the 2015 tv's? I'm having the same issue.

Current Samsung Tizen TV Software does not support developer mode, so unfinished Web Applications cannot be tested on the TV.
To test a Web Application on the TV, TV software should be updated.
We will update the TV software soon.
After the update, you will be able to test a Web Application on the TV using SDK 1.5 version.
Please wait for some time until the TV software is updated.

From the SDK download page.

@namidairo thanks for clearing that up. The update will be "soon", so wait and see.

Same problem here, I finally figured out that I have a 2015 TV (and not 2014), that's probably why I never achieved to create develop account :/

I'm pretty frustrated ; are they kidding, the update will be "soon", what the hell does "soon" means, it can be few days as several months... someone having any clue about it ?

@namidairo

I should probably mention that I've been running it from the userwidget folder on a usb for a while.

Grab whatever zip is listed in 188.226.130.26/widgetlist.xml (Note that the ip matches the one in the readme, should it change.) and then stick that in the userwidget folder on a usb. It should auto-install when you start your tv with plugged in.

The icon does not display, but other than that it works.

Note that this probably won't work on the 2016 models or whenever Samsung ditches the emulator for SmartHub apps on their Tizen models, so we'll need to port the app to Tizen at some point in the future.

Thanks a lot namidairo, that worked ! I used a similar approach for the plex app, which worked as well.

USB didn't work for me. "Unable to install".. What i am doing wrong??
Saved the xml in "userwidget" folder on my usb.

@SimonChatillon

michi512, I think he meant copy the zip file into the usb, not the xml file. You can download the zip file with the address given in the xml file. I will try that later today and see if that works.

using UE48J6270 (2015 model) and installation over usb pen works fine (actual v3.5), but the twitch-app-image logo is just black. i think there is a compilation problem, some one a solution for this?

So I'm trying to figure out how to watch twitch on my Samsung PN60F5500. I've tried following instructions throughout the internet but can't figure it out. I was hoping someone could help me out. I've tried using the widgetfolder method but that won't work. I created a folder called "userwidget" and dropped the zip file in there. Plugged it into the TV, turned it off and on. My understanding was it would install automatically. It doesn't. I then tried the same thing but extracted the zip file and put those files inside the userwidget folder and still nothing. I tired the method described at this link (which is how I ended up in this thread):

http://www.joindota.com/en/forums/691-joindota-and-community/693-community/197997-twitch-tv-samsung-smarttv-app

I can't get to an ip settings option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ghost commented Nov 8, 2015

Hi mgoldman63, I can only tell you that the widgetfolder-method worked for me and that the ip-method will not work on 2015 TVs. I have heard of people having success with unzipping and rezipping the zip-file, have you tried that ?

@mgoldman63
Copy link

I bought my TV in March 2014, could it be a 2015 model? Not sure how the model years work with TVs. I will try the rezip idea. Just so I fully understand, you put the .zip fine in a folder called userwidget and the TV will unzip the file itself? All you have to do is plug it in and it will recognize it and install automatically?

@mgoldman63
Copy link

How long do you wait for it to auto install? The file I have put in the userwidget folder is called TwitchTV_3.5_America_20150904.zip. Is that correct?

@ghost

ghost commented Nov 8, 2015

I just installed the app thru pen drive (as you guys described in your comments) and it does run in my tv (40JU6500) but as soon as i click on any channel, the screen goes black with the "retrying x/15" countdown and ends up with "error: unable to retrieve access token". any comments? thank you in advance :)

hi, I just found out they added developer mode support for 2015 models in october. Just press smarthub button and select my apps. Then press 12345 in sequence And developer mode options appear. Try installing it through dev mode as described in threads linked here.

@mgoldman63

So I tried the post #255 method, no luck. I saw the most recent post from laterxd about getting into developer mode, one problem: I have one of those remotes with no #s. Any way around that?

@billobot9000

Also tried @laterxd 's method, but after entering the ip and pressing OK it says "Please reboot for applying develop mode" - even after rebooting.

same Problem here, trying to download the App with the IP gehts me the "Please reboot for applying develop mode", downloading Twitch App .Zip file and putting it on a USB device with the name Userwidget does not work either, the TV does not seem to recognize .Zip files.

watching twitch directly with the WebBrowser also does not work because there is no Flash Player on the device, i also found others with the same problem they even contacted Samsung and they don't know if or when Flash will be updated on the TV via a Firmware update...

there is no possible way to directly watch Twitch on the TV right now :(

@n8claw

n8claw commented Dec 9, 2015

  1. Download the app: https://github.com/mkvd/smarttv-twitch/releases
  2. Format a USB-Stick (FAT16) and create folder "userwidget" in root.
  3. Copy downloaded ZIP-file (TwitchTV_3.5_America_20150904.zip) to /userwidget
  4. Login to Developer-User* (Settings>SmartHub>Samsung Account)
  5. Go to SmartHub: Select "My Apps" and plug-in the USB-Stick.

Now it takes some seconds and you will see a message if installed or not, have fun:-)
*Developer-User, Name: develop + Password is empty

PS: Can anybody help to fix the "black App-Icon" problem on newer TV's?!

Updated my fork with @whitedragonLT and @midN changes. Tnks for them.
Removed Auto option from stream quality, the quality change should be working fine now.

Kind of workaround to fix the app uninstall. On my tv the app only uninstall if i go to "MyApps". If i only use apps from the shortcuts, the app isn't removed. I only use 5-6 apps on my tv, so its not a big problem for me. Maybe this help sameone.

After some months of waiting samsung gave me this awanser, around two weeks ago, about the random crash bug.

Your issue has been reviewed and after running some tests, a fix should be coming with the next OTN firmware update. I don’t have the exact date of release, but expect it on the next few months.

About the partnership, samsung did not accept my request to expand the app for other countries. And i decided to try to fix the app before trying again. It took too long to samsung answer me and i changed of house, i didnt had my Tizen anymore, to test the app anymore.

Sorry that it took so much time to answer here.

I contacted with one content manager of Samsung TV Seller Office.
When you publish an app on Samsung TV Seller Office, you can only make it available to US. To make available to other countries, you need to be a partner first, and then ask for the content manager of your account to accept it. Because this app involves Twitch.tv we will need to get authorization from them.

If you're stuck in "Developer mode" on the Apps page and can't get the dialog to open again (using "12345") to change your computer's IP, try going to Menu (TV Settings) > System > General > Turn off "Instant Boot". The "12345" method worked again for me after that.

Same problem here, for 50KU6000. App receives the following error:

"PLAYER_SPARSE_TRACK_DETECT"

I tried debugging this and make sure the error is handled but without luck. Basically as soon as this happens the buffering stops. Also from what I saw this error comes from the AdFramework library - which doesn't make much sense since it's not being used.

It is working completely fine outside of US.

The downside is that the AUTO quality doesn't work for me and the stream has more delay than usual like 40 seconds or something. Also sometimes ifI press volume up/down the app closes.

@xgoldpt

xgoldpt commented Jun 4, 2017

I found a solution to install the twitch app and avoid being deleted/removed after poweroff/restart.

  1. First, follow the instructions to install the APP with Tizen SDK:
    1.1. By TheWalrusCometh here https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/46unro/getting_twitch_onto_a_2015_or_newer_samsung_tv/
    1.2. Or by sparkozos here Support for 2015 TVs? #53 (comment)

  2. You need to block the access of your TV to some specific domains. You have two possible ways to block it:
    2.1 Using your router, usually in parent control area. Some routers are limited or don't block very well especially https (that was my case).
    2.2 Using OpenDNS. In this case you should create an OpenDNS account (it's free), and change your TV DNS to OpenDNS. In your account, you should block these domains:

  • cdn.samsungcloudsolution.com
  • noticecdn.samsungcloudsolution.com
  • lcprd1.samsungcloudsolution.net
  • secure.netflix.com
  • api-global.netflix.com
  • appboot.netflix.com
  • nrdp.nccp.netflix.com
  • osb-krsvc.samsungqbe.com
  • *.cloudfront.net
  • gpm.samsungqbe.com
  • osb.samsungqbe.com
  • oempprd.samsungcloudsolution.com
  • empdownprd.samsungcloudsolution.com
  • log-config.samsungacr.com
  • notice.samsungcloudsolution.com
    (It depends on your TV model and in your region.)

In OpenDNS account you can track all domain that your TV access and you can block it.

I hope it helps.
Good twitch views ;)

Thanks, but i gived up, now moved to a app called TV-CAST ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.twokit.video.tv.cast.browser.samsung ) available in TIZEN store too.

Open the app in TV and phone, enter twitch web (or any video web) in your phone, and send content, now you can exit app or power off the phone.

I personally use firefox to enter twitch an use the share option to send to TV-CAST

I just install this on a 2016 UN40KU6000HXPA model running Tizen
As it took me some time to make it all work I made a update instalation guide, this was done using a Ubuntu 16.04, hope it help someone having the same problem 👍

Revised installation guide Tizen studio (tested on Linux)

  • Create a Samsung account if you don't have one and set it up as a developer account SAMSUNG DEVELOPERS
  • Log in with the developer account on the TV, open "APPS", hit number button and press the sequence 12345 A new window will pop, enter your computer LAN IP address and make sure you click "On" for enabling the developer mode, after pressing OK, reboot the TV by unplugging from power and plug back on
  • Download and install Tizen Studio https://developer.tizen.org/development/tizen-studio/download
  • I used the Tizen Studio 1.3 with IDE installer, download the 32/64 bit according to yours CPU, the file is a executable binary, give the file permission to execute, properties > permission > Execute... mark, then just drag the file to a terminal window and click enter, it may ask you to use apt-get to install missing dependencies
  • Install Java SDK, I tested this with Oracle JDK java 8 on linux terminal commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

  • Click OK/YES and accept all the requests from java installer
  • Download and extract the github repo https://github.com/bhb27/smarttv-twitch clone or Download > Download ZIP
  • Open the package manager (on linux it may request you to use apt-get to install missing dependencies)
  • Main page (Main SDK) Install Tizen SDK tools and all the etc under it (on linux it may request you to use apt-get to install missing dependencies)
  • Extension SDK page Install everything (TV extensions-3.0 and all under, TV extentions Tools) (on linux it may request you to use apt-get to install missing dependencies)
  • After everything finish installing close the package manager it will ask if you wanna to open the Tizen studio YES click open
  • Setting up the build environment...
  • On the Tizen studio start the device manager by clicking on drop down menu that has a option "launcher emulator..." if you don't find the device manager on the studio just open it as a separated app it must be installed just like the studio
  • on device manager click + and add your TV IP address don't change the Port, to get the address go to main menu > network > Network status... wait a moment extra options will be loaded, click on IP Settings read yours TV IP Address
  • Generate a certificate, back to Tizen studio > Tools > Certificate Manager > + > select/click Tizen > create a new author.. next > setup name password etc... next > Use the default Tizen... Finish > Sucess click OK
  • Select the certificate it must have a v on the front of it close the Certificate Manager
  • Making the app, Top menu > File > New > Tizen Project > click twice in Template > click twice in TV > click twice in Web Application > click twice in Basic Project > chose a project name any name ....click finish
  • wait for it to load
  • Click on the folder symbol with BasicProject-tv-samsung-3.0 on the left corner under project explorer
  • Top menu > File > Import > General > File System ... next > Browser find the extracted folder from github ... > click Select All, mark Overwrite existing ... > Finish
  • wait for it to load
  • The name the folder symbol with was BasicProject-tv-samsung-3.0 now change to BasicProject-tv-samsung-public-2.4
  • Click on that folder BasicProject-tv-samsung-public-2.4 left click, then rigth click > Run as > 1 Tizen wen Application
