Feature Description

I appreciate the thought of mapping the touchpad into three sections and mapping it to -, +, and capture. However for simplicity, an option with the following button mappings, with only one "section", would be much appreciated:

Share/Create button: Capture
Touchpad button: Minus
Options button: Plus

Rationale

I think a layout with each button mapped to only one button would be great to have, as it makes the controller layout map more closely to both an actual PS4/PS5 and how the controller is mapped with an 8bitdo adapter.

In addition, with the current layout, I keep taking screenshots by accident when I try to press + or - with the touchpad button. I wouldn't except or want to take any screenshots via the touchpad when the controller already has a button that is intended to be dedicated for captures. It just has a different positioning than on a Switch controller.

You can already map the buttons to whatever you like, using Nintendo's official button remapping feature.

In addition, with the current layout, I keep taking screenshots by accident when I try to press + or - with the touchpad button.

I think you're missing the point of the split touchpad. It's not actually meant to be used for anything other than capture. The edges that are mapped to +/- are meant to act as a buffer zone, in response to some people who complained of accidentally activating the capture button via the touchpad when attempting to press the adjacent share/options buttons. These edges will map to whatever you've assigned to share/options.

I see. Still, when I use the controller on PS5 or for PC games, I use the Create button for screenshots and the touchpad usually opens a map or menu or something in the game. This is how I'd expect it to work when I use the controller on my Switch as well. I would prefer to have the touchpad button just be - (no matter where I press it) and the Create/Share button be Capture. I can't just remap the buttons in the Switch settings menu to solve this.

I get you probably aren't interested in implementing every custom layout someone might suggest here, but I feel like a simplified layout where the touchpad is used as a single button is more intuitive than the current split layout, and an option to use the controller this way would be much appreciated, and by others probably as well.

I created a PR to implement this as an option: #799
