mmh, I'm not so sure. IMO opinion the DB should set the ID, and some DBs actually enforce that - if you supply one, it just ignores it.
This feature wouldn't harm though, if you wanna provide a PR I'm happy to take it on board.

I agree with you, but TinkerPop supports user-supplied ids.
