Camera freezing when capturing bright areas on chrome mobile

This is a weird one.
When the camera is on, and pointed at a bright area (natural sunlight, flash at reflective surface) the camera freezes, goes white, resets, and freezes again.

Device pixel 3a*
*works fine on my other devices.
*Camera on device otherwise works fine.

Has anyone else run into this?
