From that paycheck, I have a portion of my money sent to a Brokerage called Fidelity Investments, where that money is used to purchase shares for the 401k plan I am in.
At any point in time, my Brokerage account could contain stocks, bonds, mutual funds, cryptocurrency, or cash.
Through that account, I buy new investments, possibly sell existing ones leaving me with cash to make future sales, or convert one type of investment into another (really just a sell and then buy operation combined).
The important point is that this account may have cash in it at any given time and I want to make sure I'm able to track that as it is part of my net worth.
To track my paycheck, I created a simple cash account (as we cannot define custom accounts) that I use to track, line-by-line, all of the money that increases the size of my paycheck, and all of the deductions before I finally receive my net pay.
What I have been able to do in other financial applications is create an account for Fidelity Investments.
In my Paycheck (cash) account, on one of the lines for that paycheck, I make a transfer to the Fidelity Investments account (this puts the money into the Fidelity Investments account that I can then use to purchase shares).
From that same Fidelity Investments account, I can also buy or sell shares that the Brokerage handles.
My goal was to try to do the same thing in Money Manager Ex to learn how it works.
I had to watch it a couple of times because it wasn't clear to me the first few times through, but that is normal for me as I don't always get things the first time.
I thought I had eventually gotten the gist of how it worked: Create an account of type Investment and then I would be able to add shares to that.
The problem, however, was it doesn't seem to work that way, and when I looked at the tree structure in the Navigation, mine wasn't anywhere near what it was showing in the video.
For one, the Investment accounts were not showing up in the Dashboard or in the list of accounts to which I could transfer money.
I did, however, see Fidelity Investments in the Navigation Panel under Stock Portfolios
However, if I try to set up a transfer from my paycheck account, Fidelity Investments does not show up in the list of accounts that I can select.
Clicking on the Fidelity Investments account in the Navigation Pane shows the account register, and if I click on New, I get a New Stock Investment dialog box:
This looks like it has some of the same fields as the video, but the dialog box in the video is titled Add Share Transaction and has additional fields that I do not.
Now, Fidelity Investments sells stock (if I wanted to purchase those) and they also sell shares in mutual funds.
While adding each of the mutual funds I am buying shares in when I added it for the first time, I was prompted to create a new Share Account for the same item, and those started showing up under the Share Accounts section on the Navigation Panel, but not under Fidelity Investments in my Stock Portfolios section (which I believe the video is showing that they do).
I'm positive I do not understand how this is set up and tracked in Money Manager Ex, so if anyone could help me understand the flow, I would be grateful.

Hello:
I receive a paycheck every two weeks for work.
From that paycheck, I have a portion of my money sent to a Brokerage called Fidelity Investments, where that money is used to purchase shares for the 401k plan I am in.
At any point in time, my Brokerage account could contain stocks, bonds, mutual funds, cryptocurrency, or cash.

I read through the page and watched the video located here: https://moneymanagerex.org/docs/features/stocks/
I had to watch it a couple of times because it wasn't clear to me the first few times through, but that is normal for me as I don't always get things the first time.

Thank you.
