Is it legal to download video or mp3 files from YouTube using your API?
Otherwise I won't use it on my personal desktop app. But I don't see anything on the README file talking about this.

I woud like to download some songs to hear offline. I was thinking on using youtube dl, but my friend said it was illegal to use it, so I gave up.

I would appreciate some clarification about this, thanks!

The legality of the API is definitely not in question, it's not breaking any laws by existing. Note this, downloading copyrighted content is illegal, it's considered piracy. That being said, what you choose to do with this API is up to you, technically speaking you download the video everytime you bring it up, using this API is just a means of saving it. I know this might not clear up all your concerns but just note you likely won't be raided for simply using this tool. Not admitting to anything, but I have used this api for hundreds of videos and audio, its pretty useful.
