I'm posting here in Discussions for now because I'm not sure if this is intentional design or not.
So I've opened an issue in Misskey at misskey-dev/misskey#12864 where I want my quote be able to be set to Public even if the quoted post is Unlisted (or Home as it's called in Misskey). I opened it with the assumption that the rest of the fediverse actually strictly respects the parent's visibility settings and will force your replies (and quotes) to be the same visibility as the parent which Misskey does. The initial downvote seemed to have thought the same as well. However I just recently learned that this is not the case, and it is possible in Mastodon (and Pleroma) to reply to an Unlisted post as Public.
I wonder if this is intentional at all? And if so, why? I already have a theory in mind while discussing with @saschanaz in the linked issue and would be nice to know if that was a factor in the decision you made.
