I suggest a way to notify the user pamac is using pacman (the database is locked), for example, by changing the taskbar icon colour and/or putting an exclamation mark on the taskbar icon.
It happened to me, more than once, not being able to use pacman in the terminal because pamac was checking for updates. I suggested this on the forum, but I'm not sure it was the right place to do it.
