If I flag an item as important, it will be correctly shown in the Important folder. It will also be marked as read. As a result I do not know (unless I remember) that I have flagged any items to look at again.

I can toggle the items as both Important and unread, in which case they will show as a number of unread items in the Important folder. However they will also show as unread in the original folder., which is not ideal. (Also this is more keystrokes, and I have to remember to do it each time)

Would it be possible to simply mark the Important folder when it contains any flagged items? For example, use red text for the "Important" folder's name.

There is a already way to toggle an item without reading: left click on the feed icon in the item view. I know it is bad UX but the feature is there for everyone needing it :-)

As for having a different counter for the "Important" search folder it is currently not possible. There would be multiple issues:

  • colouring red does not work with GTK/GNOME theming
  • adding another counter type would have performance impact (recalc on every feed update)
  • UX wise the counters are "unread" counters

Therefore I do not plan to extend the search folder logic.

I was not very clear with my suggestion. I was not suggesting a counter for the Important folder, Simply colour the word "Important" to indicate that there are some contents. "Colour" might also be bold, italic, underline etc., or even a different icon.

I understand your suggestion, that could work. Without reading documentation or guessing it would be hard to discover the functionality though.

Right now I'm not planning to add additional logic on top of the feed list.
