As evident in /admin/config/content/linkit/manage/default/matchers, LinkIt currently only offers to link to nodes. This is because we are using the Default LinkIt profile. We can easily add Media Documents (and also Page components) to it.
Alternatively, we can create a new LinkIt profile and make all our changes to it. The WYSIWYG will then have to be instructed to use this new LinkIt profile instead of the default one.
@Adnan-cds Extending the Default Linkit profile to include Media Document and Page Component matchers feels like the most logical approach - any users requiring different settings can create new Linkit profiles and/or add matchers.
