Closing FZF via Ctrl-C is faster than ESC... why?

Hi,

closing/exiting FZF happens instantaneously via Ctrl-C, but takes about 400 ms (in the shell) to 500 ms (in Neovim) when pressing ESC. I wonder why that is and how I can make ESC close FZF instantaneously, too.
