I have just spent a few hours tracking down problems when trying to _join the result of read_state() with an external dataset. It turns out that the name_state variable has some unexpected features:

  1. Capital D in de and do, so that values are Rio De Janeiro, Mato Grosso Do Sul, etc. Because that's not standard Portuguese spelling, it can mess up joins with other datasets.

  2. No accent on the first i in Espírito Santo. Same problems.
