Tabfile to StarDict

Hello,

Thank you for this great tool.

1. How to write synonyms in my tabfile?

I saw that light word variations were for example written with a pipe like this "singular|plural tab definition" but I don't know how to integrate synonyms for a StarDict dictionary. Do I just copy and paste the same definition to different entries?

2. Is it possible to add images to some entries as you would do in html?

3. Is it possible to make a link between two dictionary entries because I have quite a few references to other entries in my definitions.

4. What do you use to edit your tabfiles? I'm currently using notepad++ with the "Show all characters" option enabled but for formatting my dictionary with html and seeing the changes live, it may not be the most efficient.

5. What do you use to automate the formatting of your text files to easily add a tab for example?

1. If you mean you want multiple definitions in the same entry in StarDict, you need to write it in StarDict Textual file format rather than Tabfile. But we commonly have one definition per-entry that uses html lists (<ol> or <ul>).
2. Yes, for Tabfile, if your file is named test.txt you place the images in test.txt_res folder and use the file names (or relative path) in your HTML definitions.
3. Yes, you make a link like <a href="bword://another word">another word</a>.
4. Any editor or IDE can do, but you gotta be aware of file size. I'd personally use Atom and VSCodium, both can open large files without too much lag I think (though Atom is discontinued sadly).
5. I don't write dictionaries myself. If you are not comfortable writing Tabfile, take a look at dictfile.

No worries.

You seperate the words/phrases with | like you said.
The gramatical relation between them is not relevant (as long as definition is clear about it). They all point to same definition.

But for synonyms I would suggest a new entry that gives link to its synonyms with <a> like I mentioned, since synonyms are not exactly the same and might be slightly different. Specially if you want to write examples of their usage or other details.

Everything works as it should. I still have to edit the tabfile to create links everywhere but everything else works fine.
Except for the images which don't seem to work.

By the way, regarding the size of the images, what is the maximum size you recommend? For the moment I put width=500px in the tag but I think it's too big. In any case, when I see the right size, I will resize to the desired size so as not to take more disk space than necessary.

Don't include the directory name (Silmarillion.txt_res/) in image paths. Only the path relative to that directory, in this case just the file name Ted_Nasmith_-_The_Glittering_Caves_of_Aglarond.webp

Hmmm, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it's not working. :D I don't have an image displayed in this dictionary entry (Aglarond) on KOReader on my Kobo.

I converted your glossary to StarDict and tested on StarDict and the image is shown.

I don't know if KOReader supports external images. You may need to embed their contents as base64 in the html itself. Try this site: https://base64.guru/converter/encode/image

Did you copy the whole directory that contains the ifo file to StarDict dic folder?
