Netlify bought the company who was sponsoring the project, alting all funding. Contentlayer has not been updated since August, and is not compatible with Next 14. The documentation website is down as well. Other options would need to be explored as it's not sustainable.

Some alternatives to explore :

Adding frontmatter to next-mdx looks easy enough (https://nextjs.org/docs/pages/building-your-application/configuring/mdx#frontmatter)

The option that has been adopted in the "component" section of the documentation is next-mdx-remote with the same frontmatter configuration that is also used by contentlayer.
