Would there be any interest in the introduction of --exec-prefix option to specify where arch. dependent files are installed?
The general format of GNU ./configure is to accept both --exec-prefix and --prefix, most people tend to just use --prefix which is the default way to modify where to install. But there is also --exec-prefix which specifies where binaries, and other arch. dependant files are installed.
This is mostly useful in environments where you share the same installation of a program between multiple systems, so slightly a niche thing.
I'm happy to supply such a patch, so just asking if there is any interest in accepting it at all.
