When I boot up my UmbrelOS 1.1.2 system for the first time after a clean install, it asks for a login and password, and every time I do, it says "incorrect password", even if the system is just being installed from zero.

That's the standard linux tty prompt. You don't have to use it. Go to http://umbrel.local on any device connected to the same network as your server and you should be greeted by Umbrel's onboarding.
If umbrel.local is not found
Log in (username: umbrel, password: umbrel)
Run ip address
Find an ip address that starts with 192.168. or 10. and does not have a / after it
