Well, I don't know exactly why, but the Jide Remix did not want to connect to the printer initially. I fiddled with different cables and hubs but right now the top USB port is directly connected to my Creality CR6SE (stock firmware November 2022 Marlin 2.0.6). The G4 seemed to do OK with the IP Webcam app but kept hanging when I tried to get a brighter video feed. Something is up with the white balance and the controls aren't working without causing it to hang. I am able to run Octo4a (still 1.1.2) on the G4 with the camera serving as a webcam with no battery in the phone. Octoprint accepts the mjpeg address of the G4 in the webcam settings of the Remix. I have not been successful installing Octolapse on the Remix. I need to look deeper but I think I'm getting the same errors reported by others who have tried with Octo4A 1.2.0 working plugins: Navbar Temperature, OctoApp, OctoEverywhere, Slicer Thumbnails, UI Customizer I would still like to get Octolapse working and I'll have to see if Octo4a stays stable so that it doesn't spontaneously switch to the front selfie camera. |

now thanks to a-c-m Octolapse is working! #373 So, octo4a runs on the LG G4 to provide snapshots and a live video feed to octo4a on the Jide Remix. If you don't already know this, static ip addresses are critical. I forgot add that the G4 is still on octo4a 1.1.2 and octoprint 1.8.6 while the remix is using octo4a 1.2 and octoprint 1.8.7 |

After months of frustration trying to get certain plugins installed on a BLUphone Octo4a, I reverted to the dual device setup. Now the BLUphone runs Octo4A only to act as a camera. I updated everything from Octo4A through Octoprint and all my plugins on the Remix Mini and it all installed perfectly with a single exception: for some reason, Octolapse is showing as version 0.4.1 even though pip built and installed the wheel for 0.4.5 and reports a successful install. I'm testing octolapse now and it works great so I think this is the setup I'm sticking with. This also solved a problem with pycryptodome not installing which prevented OctoApp companion plugin from installing. I got all the benefits of OctoApp working again which is a bigger deal than octolapse for me. |

My biggest problem with O4A on an old Cell Phone is the 'not charging properly when OTG is connected' issue. I found out that my LG G4s will actually run totally off charger power if I pull the fully charged battery halfway through the phone's bootup process but I cannot get this to work when any of my OTG adapters are attached. I have a lot of Y cables and hubs and I've tried them all. The main reason I haven't tried simply soldering + and - is that I tested this connection with a printed dummy battery and it never worked. I still occasionally see this phone refusing to charge while printing and the battery will drain in 1-2 hours.
I only rediscovered the Jide Remix Mini I gave up on 2 years ago and in the last couple of days, I installed O4A on that with surprising results. The 1.2.0 apk ran perfectly and I didn't need to ssh in to get octoprint up. It seems really fast at serving the octoprint interface when compared to the G4. It took installation of plugins well and I even tried setting it up with klipper. All good no errors. I'm seeing used minis on ebay for less than 25 USD. It is powered off its own wall adapter, has good wifi and it's even more adorable in person than the inovato quadra. It's just missing a camera. So.
My idea which I will be trying out soon is to use the Remix as the octoprint server and the G4 as the camera only. I'll start off disabling the klipper parts for now. And I'll use the IP address of the G4 for the streaming video and Octolapse snapshots. Hopefully, I can dump the OTG connectors entirely and just run the G4 off the charger. I also might find another android app that simply serves the camera feed to octoprint and octoapp.
Stay tuned. (if anyone else has tried this approach, I'm interested to hear what happened)
