It would be nice to have a way to extract minimal information about URLs without making actual requests.
For example, it is possible to guess an HTML embed code from a Youtube URL.

Pros

Cons

  • There is no guarantee on the information we could get, depending on how easy it is to infer from an URL. For example, we could guess HTML code to embed a Youtube video, but not from another provider. So it would be the user's responsibility to check if any information is available.

It would be great to have it in xml or database with attributes like last update/data/TTL(for expiration control).

I don't have much time to work on essence these times but I'll be glad to see it continuing to evolve :)
