Hardware Setup - Tamiya TT02

Follow these instructions to build JetRacer - Tamiya TT02 version. After you've finished, move on to the software setup.

Tools

  • Phillips screwdriver set
  • Hex screwdriver
  • Drill with 3mm and 6mm drill bits
  • Countersink drill bit
  • Pliers
  • Wire strippers

Phase 1 - TT-02 chassis setup

Step 1 - Drilling mount holes to TT-02 chassis

[Tips] It is better to perform this drilling before assembling the Tamiya TT-02 parts

  1. Attach the jig on TT-02's "Lower deck" chassis (Item #51532)

  2. Align the jig to chassis holes. Use tapes to secure it

  3. Use a 3mm drill bit to drill 4 holes

Step 2 - Countersink

[Tips] Use of independent countersink drill bit (as opposed to the integrated one in the photo) is recommended.

  1. Use countersink drill bit to make countersinks for flathead screw

  2. Do this for all 4 holes

Step 3 - Shaving motor cover

  1. Use 6mm drill bit to shave off part of motor cover part

  2. Make sure it now has enough room for M3x45mm standoff to sit on the countersink hole you made on prior step

Step 4 - Attaching standoffs on chassis

  1. Attach M3x45mm standoffs on "Lower deck" chassis with M3x8mm flat-head screws

  2. Do this on all 4 holes

  3. Do not tighten screws yet

Phase 2 - Mounting components on base plate

Step 1 - Multiplexer

  1. Use 2x M2x8mm tapping screws to mount the multiplexier on the base plate

Step 2 - Servo Motor Driver

  1. Use 4x M2x8mm tapping screws to mount Servo Motor Driver on the base plate

Step 3 - Jetson Nano Developer Kit

  1. Use 4x M2x8mm tapping screws to mount Servo Motor Driver on the base plate

Step 4 - IMX219 camera on Camera Mount

  1. Use 4x M2x8mm tapping screws to attach camera to the camera mount

Step 5 - Wi-Fi antennas

  1. Place SMA anntena connector through the base plate hole

  2. Put lock washer and split washer, and use the nut to tighten

Phase 3 - Wiring

Step 1 - Camera to Jetson Nano

  1. Attach the camera to the Jetson Nano developer kit as indicated

Be careful when loosing the camera connector to not break it

  2. Attach the camera to the camera mount using 4x M2x8mm screws

  3. Attach the camera mount to the base plate using 4x M2x8mm screws

Step 2 - Jetson Nano to Servo Motor Driver

  1. Select 4 female-to-female jumper cables from the bundle

  2. Attach the jumper wires to the Jetson Nano pins 3.3V (red), 3 (orange), 5 (yellow) and GND (brown)

  3. Attach the jumpers to the servo driver pins VCC (red), SDA (orange), SCL (yellow) and GND (brown)

Step 3 - Servo Motor Driver to multiplexer

  1. Connect channel 0 on the servo driver to channel S1 on the multiplexer

Pay attention to the orientation of the cable for these steps!

  2. Connect channel 1 on the servo driver to channel S2 on the multiplexer

Step 4 - Wi-Fi antenna to M.2 card

  1. Attach the two antennas to the Wi-Fi card

Step 5 - Wi-fi M.2 card to Jetson Nano

  1. Remove the Jetson Nano module from the developer kit board as indicated

  2. Remove the M.2 connector securing screw on the developer kit base board

  3. Insert the Wi-Fi card into the M.2 connector slot

  4. Reattach the screw to secure the Wi-Fi card

Step 6 - USB Battery to Jetosn Nano

  1. Attach the 2 pin jumper to J48 on the Jetson Nano developer kit to enable barrel plug power

  2. Insert the USB plug into the powerbank

  3. Insert the barrel plug into the Jetson Nano Developer Kit

  4. Use battery strap to fasten the battery on the base plate

Step 7 - RX (RC receiver) to mulptiplexer

  1. Connect CH3 on the RC receiver to SEL on the multiplexer

  2. Connect CH2 on the RC receiver to M2 on the multiplexer

  3. Connect CH1 on the RC receiver to M1 on the multiplexer

Step 8 - RC's ESC and servo to mulptiplexer

  1. Connect the RC servo to OUT1 on the multiplexer

  2. Connect the RC ESC to OUT2 on the multiplexer

Phase 4 - Final Assembly

  1. Use 4x M3x8mm screws to attach base plates to the M3x45mm standoffs
  2. Tighten the bottom flathead screws along with top M3x8mm screws
  3. Attach the antenna to the SMA connectors
