Recent versions of s3fs make using boto3 difficult due to dependency conflicts; it seems unlikely this situation will be resolved given that it has remained active for about 2 years. Although we could find some compatible situations, this makes us tied to s3fs updates for another core dependency. We should look into what it would take to remove this dependency
