What's next, lets remove "Black" from the color scale? Or, let's rename "BlackHoles" to "Big scary space anomaly" this is the most ignorant thing I have read in a very long time. |

I have switched the main branch of this repo to
main
instead ofmaster
and have replacedblacklistedBrowsers
withblockedBrowsers
.I know that some feel that this is an exaggerated response to the BLM movement, so i wanted to address it quickly.
I don't think that using
master
is racist per se, or that people that still usemaster
as the main branch are racists. Obviously. Master has many meanings, and most of them are not in the context of "master / slave" relations, and neither are git branches. The same goes for the blacklist, which does have a complicated origin, and did most probably not originate with a relationship to people with dark skin tones.I just feel that these changes are very easy to make, and if they're nothing more than me showing support and willingness to help the fight against inequality then that's fine with me. If it really bothers you so much that I made these changes then maybe you should think about why that is.
I know that changing the main branch name can be disruptive. People have already complained that some package manages couldn't find this package anymore. And hey... maybe that's a good thing, since it raises the subject and makes it harder to forget that there is a real inequality worldwide that affects people of color disproportionately.
I have also restarted working on this project properly, and made a few changes. The "master" branch of this repository was not the master branch anymore, because that had moved to GitLab anyway, and the GitHub master had diverged with only the
dist/
files in it. So I had to rewrite history anyway. Perfect timing to also align the name of the main branch with my values. So if you're still angry that I made this change, just know that it would have happened anyway without the BLM movement. Also:
main
is just a better name for the main branch of a repository.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
