like how the nyan cat gets a way trail, maybe we could have the parrot on a slower loop, and speed up when the hook gets invoked?

That's an interesting idea, although I don't currently have the time to tinker and implement it. However, if you do get it working, feel free to make a PR and I'd be happy to review it!
