How to set up Doctrine for long-running processes (daemons)?

I have a not-Symfony project that has a manually instantiated Entity Manager. I also have many long-running processes executing operations in the database.

So, basically, my question is: how to set up Doctrine in such a scenario?

Going further:

1. what is the recommended caching mechanism?
2. here is said that one should create a new entity manager per (http) request, so:
   1. Should that also include a new message, in an event-driven architecture?
   2. How to set up the entity manager in a DI container? (e.g. should I always return a new object?)
   3. How to set up the entity manager during tests? (e.g. should I always return the same object?)
3. Which Doctrine operations do I need to do after my consumers consume each message? Right now I'm doing something similar to this and this.
