Crash or no pickup on source change #4
Comments
I believe I'm running into this issue, or a similar one. Pretty much every content change from my ATV with crash VP. 24hz HDR to 30hz SDR (pause movie to ATV Screensaver) will kill it every time. I'm on Win10 but this was also happening on Win11. I have a RTX3060ti on the latest driver. |
I have been experiencing this issue, as have others. Same error. For some reason it seems to be reported more often recently. Occurs on all version of VP, including the latest beta. |
Can't debug this as I don't have a theater anymore or a VP setup. Will leave it open for the future for what that changes which it will, one day :) |
Really good to hear from you.
Everyone is scrambling in the AVS thread trying to resolve a crashing issue that seems to be getting worse.
If ever you have a moment to drop in it would be really encouraging to everyone and maybe you can point some of the people that have some C++ skills in the right direction.
I wish I could move this forward, but I have absolutely no C++ knowledge, other than being able to read it decently.
If ever you are near Montreal, the invitation for a BBQ and wine remains open 😉

Hi Andrew,
Well, unfortunately these sorts of bugs have very little to do with C++
knowledge and a lot with just sheer luck that your debugger caught them. In
my experience even if you have it live they are very hard to debug as these
tend to be some windows internals. You essentially need to rip entire parts
of the engine out to see if that stops the behaviour and iteratively work
your way to figuring out what's going on. A not so fun way to spend a few
days.
If I'm ever in Montreal I'll definitely give you a ping. Once I have a
theater again in Austin, I'll send out an invite for BBQ and weirdness ;-)
Kind regards,

Hi Dennis,
Unfortunately my skillset is more around VBA and Power Query than C++, so it is not ever anything I could even attempt to resolve. As I said some of the guys on the forum are trying to hunt this down.
Hopefully you are doing well in Texas, really different from the Netherlands I would imagine!
Although I get to California on occasion, Texas is not on my list of destinations these days. However if you get a home theatre up and running and throw a Texas BBQ, I might add it back on to my list of places to go 😉
If you don’t mind, I’ll send you the occasional email on how things are moving forward. I am sure if the guys make some progress, you might see a pull request.
Cheers,
Andrew

Texas is nice, have a BBQ, space for a HT and a rebuild plan so who knows where that combination might take you ;) |
Some source changes lead to a crash or the source not sending a support format to the capture card. Restarting the card does not help buy sometimes restarting the process does. Probably somewhere in the init of the EDID?
