Announcement team got confused about what is the recommended entry point link to download the standalone DEX app. I think new users coming to our sites will be equally confused. The options are and tradeoffs are:

I may have missed something but clearly this needs to be streamlined. First let's pick which are the recommended binaries (built by Decred Release or by DEX devs), second let's choose the canonical entry point, third let's make it easy to follow.

One attempt to untangle this from the bottom up and eliminate unnecessary choices for end users.

Which set of binaries?

  • Is there really a need to have two sets of binaries to choose from? If not, continue
  • Use binaries from v1.8.1 release for their benefits: more OS choices, tray and non-tray exe-s bundled in one download, sigs, build automation, building blocks for reproducible builds

Where to place the binaries?

  • dcrdex releases is the best place
  • Replace dexc binaries, hashes and sigs in DEX v0.6.3 release with ones from v1.8.1 release
  • Remove dexc binaries from v1.8.1 to avoid confusion, edit v1.8.1 release page to link to dcrdex release
  • Result: All wins in one place (bins and relnotes together, single set of bins, all OS choices, signed by Decred Release key, choices and confusion reduced)

What is the main link to use in announcements
