To build the software:
- Copy makefile.in.ex to makefile.in and modify the parameters appropriately
- Run "make" to create srv/feapp and srv/feaps
You should not need any additional libraries beyond those used to compile
an ordinary FEAP executable on UNIX. The FEAP server needs to be able to
access the system socket libraries, but those libraries should already be
linked in if you are able to use X-Windows graphics.
--- Running ---
There are two ways to run the software. You can either run the FEAP server
(the default), or you can run FEAP via a pipe. If you have a particularly
strict firewall on your system, you may be unable to run using the server.
To run with the FEAP server:
- From the command line, start srv/feaps
- In a different window, start MATLAB
- Run matfeap_init to set up the relevant MATLAB paths
- Run an example (e.g. cd example; blocktest1)
To run with a FEAP pipe, in MATLAB enter the lines
global matfeap_globals
matfeap_global.command = [pwd, '/feapp'];
It is also possible to run the server remotely, or do various other tricks;
see the help in feapstart.
Note that MATFEAP probably will not work with versions of MATLAB before 7.0.
(The student version should also work.)
--- Interactive testing ---
MATFEAP lets MATLAB and FEAP interact via a (mostly) text interface.
You can try this interface directly, either by running srv/feapp from
the command line or by running the FEAP server (srv/feaps) and executing
telnet localhost 3490
from a separate window. Type 'help' at the FEAPSRV> prompt to see the
list of possible commands.
