Develop a method to handle long-term price changes of commodities in a realistic way #1720

Some consideration should be given to the way that the price of commodities change over very long time scales (hundred-hundreds of years).

I am not entirely sure how to do this, but I'm thinking of including some macroeconomic effects like inflation at least.
