Hi,

as organizers of PythonCamp we have the following problem:

Our Bar Camp is free of charge and we have a limit of 80 people. Unfortunately people sign up and then don't show up to the event. This way they prevent people in the waiting list to get a spot in the Bar Camp.

One solution for this that we discussed are tokens.

Our Idea is:

  • We would be able to generate different tokens for different groups (e.g. user groups/pycologne etc.)
  • People with such a token can directly sign up for the event
  • People without token can start to sign up later

What is the benefit?

We notice that most people who sign up and then don't come are not yet part of the community (e.g. a user group). We want to have as many people as possible on the event. But we also want to have a good mix of community members and people new to the community.

Tokens would allow us to define how many people of the community and how many new people we would invite. Also they would allow us to see where the people that don't show up come from (e.g. wich user group).

Maybe you can think about it.

can't you simply create tickets and explain which ticket is available for which group? (like it's usually done for students, members of something etc.)? You can define also define the amount of tickets in each group.
