This isn't an issue per se but I am curious why it was decided to have these functions rely on .nc files pre-manipulated into .grd files for the likelihood calculation, rather than directly on the .nc files downloaded from Motu (as with hycom)? It substantially reduces the download time and processing to just directly handle the .nc files without manipulation into another format.
