Surface profiling: software crashes

We recently purchased a Craniobot, and we have tried using the python version of the software to test it. Our problem with the python software is that it crashes whenever we try to run surface profiling. Everything is fine up to that point. i.e. we can move the profiler around and "find origin" and "set origin" work. We have also checked the Craniobot.launch.pyw and it does not report anything, the file is actually empty.
We are able to use the matlab version of the software successfully but would prefer to use the python version, especially as it seems to be under active development.

I was wondering if you could give us any advice regarding this problem.
