Possible home page updates for Backdrop 2.0

I think it would be great if backdropcms.org could get a light redesign to coincide with the launch of Backdrop 2.0 (or perhaps before, to promote that 2.0 is coming soon!)

I don't know how extensive a redesign this needs to be, but at the very least, it should involve an update for the home page. I'm going to start a list of ideas for the home page based on how we currently use it.

More prominent things

• What is backdrop area is necessary
• Why choose backdrop should be shortened, with link to longer-form page
• Demo and Download should remain prominent, but text below should be easily readable
• Love the featured showcase area, but could use some copy in addition to image + title
• Would be nice to have a place to post timely promotions, such as backdrop sessions at other events
• Site-wide footer with social + newsletter signup needs to stay

Less prominent things

• Upgrade from Drupal 7 can be less prominent (but should remain on home page)
• Need a designated area for next Backdrop LIVE dates
• Would be nice to have office hours info too (can be with BLIVE info)
• Comments, Commits + Community members should stay
• Books still lend to credibility, should remain on home page
• Resource links on the home page are helpful
• Latest news is important, but not frequent
• Supporters are not relevant, can be removed
