The app seems to work well but could use a more modern look. Why is the term "note" used? Why is there a "Title" box in the compose window? Why is pleroma not mentioned in the account type area? It seems to work better logging into pleroma with the "mastodon" setting rather than the "activityPub" setting. Whats with all the complicated timelines? "Home", " Home Combined" maybe "notifications" instead of "interactions. Whats with the "unread" timeline when new statuses can be read in the home timeline? The app works well but it seems overly complex for todays fediverse and definitely feels like an early 2000s design

Hi @davidbtc2009,
Thank you for your review :-)

  1. I agree, the app is overcomplicated. And this is mostly because it supports several "data models" / ways to describe Social networks from a Client application point of view.
The most recent, open and promising model / view on a social network (as I think) is in the W3C recommendation called "ActivityPub". On the other hand, Mastodon's "client API" (interface, way to communicate...) is mostly Twitter's outdated model with some enhancements...

Many open social networks (including Pleroma and Mastodon) now are trying to provide the new "ActivityPub" API for their systems.

Unfortunately currently "ActivityPub Client to Server" support is very poor for most of Social networks (It's a bit better for Pleroma than for Mastodon though...)

The terms "Actor", "Note", "Subject", "Activity" are from the ActivityPub document (and from its base...).

More info on ActivityPub support in AndStatus is here: #499

Why is pleroma not mentioned in the account type area? It seems to work better logging into pleroma with the "mastodon" setting rather than the "activityPub" setting.

  1. AndStatus app doesn't have special API implementation for Pleroma. This is why you have to connect to it using Mastodon or ActivityPub "type of Social network".

  2. About "Combined" and other timelines: they are really needed if you have many accounts in different social networks, some of which may be down now, but you may want to keep their messages cached in AndStatus app... The list, ordering and even names of these timelines are customizable, so you can hide any of them. Please see Timelines in AndStatus (was: Timeline Mess) #395

  3. Anyway, I agree that the app has ways for improvements. Including visual improvements. When I have time, I read all these issues and choose for implementation the most important (as I think...). You could choose some other part to improve our Open Source app, you are welcome! But let's discuss that change first...
