I am in the Uk. Actual never shows any currency sign for me so I happily treat my transactions in GBP. Admittedly not ideal if you use more than one currency. |

Multi-currency support would be beneficial, firstly to have a default currency per account, then capture the transaction currencies. Eventually can add in for FX rates to be able to display in a local currency if there are foreign currency accounts |

Some comments on currency from James which were posted in the Discord while the conversation is mostly around multi-currency it gives a good overview of the stance. |

I recently moved from Canada to the US and also lost (maybe?) all of my Actual data so I took a chance to rethink how I deal with some of the weirdness with how I keep track of things in Actual especially considering multi-currency. My methods probably won't work for the EU case but for me it does. Maybe this will help someone else. The current exchange rate is about 1.4 cad per usd which is decently close, so I budget everything as if it is in usd, and my few cad purchases are budgeted as if they were the same price in usd. I try not to exchange cad for usd and I have enough cad saved that this doesn't really impact my ability to budget reasonably. My regular bank accounts are luckily only in a single currency, so all transactions go in at face value. The difficulty is with transfers between them that do exchange currency. What I do right now, is delete the incoming transaction as imported, leaving the transaction created by turning the outgoing transaction into a transfer. This leaves the source account at the right value and the destination account at the wrong amount. I then add a transaction on the same date with the payee "Currency Conversion" for the difference categorized under Banking (where all my account fees, CC fees, etc go). This works fine for now. One possible "easy" but hacky improvement would be to allow the amount on either side of a transfer to become uncoupled which would probably be annoying to deal with but work. I think the ideal solution is similar to what the Discord discussion said. Allow each account to have a currency, any transfer between accounts with different currencies you have to specify an exchange rate and each month would have you specify an exchange rate to your budgeting currency for each currency you use other than that base one. I think having something static per month for budgeting purposes is good enough and if it changes enough to matter, you can change it yourself. An expansion would be to allow loading the average over some period of time so you don't have to look them up yourself. I also have some weird things that I do for my investment accounts that I keep off-budget since those also deal with multiple currencies but I think that's out of the scope of Actual (for now!) EDIT: of course I only see later that discussions aren't used anymore. I feel this could be useful to someone in the future if this issue is brought up again so I'll leave it for now. |

Hi. I don't think #380 should be merged into this discussion. I just want numbers without decimals, not multi-currency. It's a dealbreaker for me to see so much noise and wasted space with all the 0 decimals. Thanks |
