Fresh local install not working #1235

If reporting a bug:

  1. Can you describe the problem and bug in more detail?
    Can't install locally using the instructions from GETTING-STARTED.md.

  2. How can we replicate the issue?
    clone the repo and try to follow the instructions and install. Some dependencies from package.json aren't supported with the mentioned node version 10.x. When using a supported node version (>12.x), make fails with gyp ERR! stack Error: make failed with exit code: 2

  3. Expected behavior (i.e. solution)
    Should be able to install following the detailed instructions

  4. Error stack (from extension crash page)

Thanks @jamalavedra!

This is currently expected to fail because we have not made one of the core libraries public yet.
We have on the map to public and the private parts out, but haven't gotten to it thus far.
We have a couple of high importance feature updates on the horizon and hopefully get to that soon after.

I'll have to update the docs.

Is there a version from the repo that works with the current dependencies?

I am afraid that is a long time ago!
Is there anything specific you want to achieve and I can help you with?

Maybe we can hack around it somehow, but helpful to understand where you want to go with it?

I was just trying to get it working in my system out of curiosity.
