Additional context

Considering latest LTS for Ubuntu is now 22.04, do we consider or has plan to make the default box to it ?

At the moment we need the following for this to happen:

  • Arm64 boxes for Parallels and Apple Silicon users
  • Apt sources adding for the new version
  • update the box files mentioned in the vagrantfile for virtualbox/parallels/hyper-v/vmware
  • Testing to confirm it does what it says it does

As for when it happens, it'll happen when all of the above are complete. I'm not in a position to do this myself in the near future ( months long major ongoing internet issues have crippled my ability to contribute in a significant way ).

The Apt sources are the lowest hanging fruit and don't require a box change to be released ( you could specify an Ubunut 22 box in config.yml ), in most cases it's just an extra file with the appropriate filename to match the new version.

Likewise knowing which box names to use can be added to this ticket.

As for urgency, that would be low, Ubuntu 20 is still actively supported.

this is just a FYI.. if we do support Ubuntu 22.04 in the near future, MariaDB 10.6 or higher is needed!

Something bothering me is we've not seen anybody build a bento box for 22 on parallels Arm64 yet. I don't relish building that box myself.

Also my Tart VM experiments have ended up using Ubuntu 22 by accident
