[Signal 9] Termux crashes in android 12

A lot of android users know by now that termux has some real issues with android 12

• [Process completed (signal 9) - press Enter] #110
• [Process completed (signal 9) - press Enter] #117

Here is a workaround that could fix issues
with this command

adb shell device_config put activity_manager max_phantom_processes 10000

this command makes phantom process in peace to some extend

you may need a laptop with platform-tools or adb installed with all the drivers

for linux users to adb & fastboot

apt install fastboot adb -y

The problem is that config can be reseted in any time and max_phantom_proccesses will revert to 32.

That is why is needed to freeze config to prevent reset.

adb shell "/system/bin/device_config set_sync_disabled_for_tests persistent; /system/bin/device_config put activity_manager max_phantom_processes 2147483647"

Which arises another problem ?
If the config is frozen and some kind of error occur, the system won't be able to recover because system config is frozen and
it will end in endless loop trying and your phone is brick !

So it is very nasty solution ! A Gamble sort of .

I did it and for now had no problems . It is working like a charm .
But , you will never know ?

Yes , Android wirelles debugging helps a lot .
No need for Pc , only wirelles network .

For now nobody had negative experience with freezing config ,
and that is good thing .
I have Samsung S20 and on last update I did not unfreeze config and nothing bad happened !
I risked the 1000 EUR phone , but everything went smooth !
I will not do it again , that was the only time . And went ok !

All the things above which I mentioned never happened to anyone for now .
I wrote about them so users can be aware of potential danger .

For now it is SAFE ! The adb solution .

Your project is very important , because it is crossroad what will happen !

They don't wan't free software , and yet they can not shut it out intarelly !
So , it is kind of game of cat and mouse !

If you and others successed , in future we will have Android combined with all kind of linux free software !
Which is the real future and is very , very good thing !
And under pressure vendors can even expose GUI drivers and ... Who knows ?

But if they successed , we will have fancy phones 1000+ EUR capable of making calls only and texting and etc ...
Android software is child play and worthless for every day usage .
You pay for real apps , office and etc... They are usefull and they costs . Linux does not !
Expensive bricks , nothing more .

So this moment in history is so important in that struggle , very important .

What will happen ?

That is why I said that last milestone of Udroid is Speed and Clipboard Android - linux share .
With those two achieved Linux on phone becomes USABLE for every day , on work , or at home .

It does not to be light speed , termux-x11 is fast enough for the every day work !
I am talking about needs to work on linux on daily basis , not gaming .
Gaming is not important at all .
I am talking about usabillity of linux on the phone for bussiness , daily work combined with existing Android software .
And for me it is working .

Clipboard is connection between Android and Linux . If they can be combined it is a BOMB !
DEX is only launcher which make things easier and in that way it is doing great job .

And you said Clipboard will be implemented in V3 .
The last milestone ! After that thngs will progress faster and faster !
More and more users will come . Everyone want's to use their phones for work , desktop phones on daily basis !

The whole thing does not to be perfect .
It is already usable . I can tell that !
For 3 months I am using DEX and Ubuntu 21.04 , Libre Office , Gimp , from not long ago LossLessCut ( I work a lot with cutting - merging videos without re-encoding , which is perfect ) .
In Android you have maybe one app which does similar and it re-encode and make video bigger . It is not even close !

The Udroid was the first to present LossLessCut on phone Linux , LossLessCut is king in that area !
Why ? Well , just try to find similar with that kind of power as LossLessCut and you will see why !
There are faint try's , but nothing close . And the Udroid was the first to make it alive !
Lots of users are searching for this kind of app , lots of them !

And yes , the only thing I am waitting is Clipboard in Termux-x11 and I don't need more .

It is usable !

And when it is usable , more and more users will come , in thousands , in millions !
I already made so much links to this project , people will come !

For me , it is an honour to be present at this crucial time and whitness a future !
And actually be part of it .

So , Udroid , go for it !

so your phone is samsung galaxy s20? how do samsung dex make things easier in your perspective?

1. Set max phantom to int 2147483647, max number, ( instead of 32 ) . It will never reach int number and never trigger itself .

adb shell "/system/bin/device_config put activity_manager max_phantom_processes 2147483647"

2. Freeze config so it won't reset to 32

adb shell "/system/bin/device_config set_sync_disabled_for_tests persistent; /system/bin/device_config put activity_manager max_phantom_processes 2147483647"

Re-enable device config sync - before next update on phone, it is unknown will it conflict with the updating phone so re-enable before updating phone and after update set it again to max int and freeze config .

If the phone is updating and needs to write in config and config is frozen,
that can lead to crash, so re-enable , unfrooze config before update .

One thing is plus in this case .
Even that config is frozen , system can still write one variable per access
into the frozen config without crash .

The minus .
Google have exclusive access to config , permission above Android ,
and can decide to write into config at any time ,
unless config is frozen !
And their access atempt into frozen config can lead into infinite try loop ,
and brick the phone.
So it is not only update which can cause dissaster !

Unfreeze config

adb shell "/system/bin/device_config set_sync_disabled_for_tests none"
